In a Male-Dominated Industry, Women Vow to Change the 16% Statistic


Committed to Change

 It’s a sobering fact: just 16% of financial advisors are women. The good news is the Women’s Leadership Alliance is working diligently to boost that stat. “We’re not going to give up on this,” vows WLA member Crystal Alford-Cooper, CFP®, CFA®, CRC®. “Is it moving as fast as we want to? No. But what does?”

Mentors Make a Difference

 Kayla Walter, CFP® agrees: “That number is terrible, but not shocking,” she says. “When you mention ‘finance,’ it’s a male-dominated industry. There are successful women in this business. They appear hard to seek out until you actually realize how many women are actually there for you and want to help you and pay it forward.”

“Shed the Stigma”

Fellow CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERs™ Sarah Broglie and Linette Dobbins know that the “antidote” isn’t pushing men out. It’s pulling women in. Sarah believes that inspiring more college women or career changers to join the field “will help shed the stigma of it as a male-dominated industry.” Linette is helping the WLA lead the charge: “Together, we can change the conversation and we can encourage more women to come into this business.”
